
Aarnio, Eero
Eero Aarnio (*1932) Finland Born in Helsinki, Eero Aarnio studied at the institute of Industrial arts in Helsinki and graduated in 1957. He established his own design office in 1962 and has since then worked primarily as an interior and industrial designer. His globe chair was introduced to the public at the Colonge furniture fair in 1966 and won the immediate acclaim of the design press despite the fact that it was very expensive and was produced on a limited scale. In 1968 he was awarded the American Industrial Design award for his famous pastille chair. Aarnio was at the forefront of the popularity of plastic furniture in the ’60 and ’70.
