Starck, Philippe

Starck, Philippe

(France, 1949)

Philippe Starck studied at the Ecole Nissin de Camondo . In 1965, he won the “La Vilette” furniture competition, prompting L.Venturi and later Quasar to commission him to design wind-blown furniture. Starck started his own company to produce these items, and in 1969, he became art director of the Pierre Cardin Studio, designing 65 pieces of furniture for them. In the 1970s, Philippe Starck worked as an independent designer, designing nightclub interiors. In 1969, he traveled the world, and upon his return in 1980, he started his own production and distribution company, Starck Products, which sold his earlier designs. In 1982, Starck, along with four designers, was commissioned to redecorate the French president’s “Palais de l’Élysée.” He also designed the Café Costes in Paris in 1994. With these two successes, Starck achieved international fame. He receives many commissions for the interiors of hotels, nightclubs, shops and restaurants, where he can also incorporate his own designs of furniture, lighting fixtures, vases, door handles and other accessories. Philippe Starck has worked for many different manufacturers, to name a few: Vitra, Disform, Driade, Baleri, XO, Idée, Flos and Alessi. He also designed electronics for Thomson, Saba and Telefunke, and a prototype scooter for Aprilla. The names and the designs themselves are striking, sensual and attractive. As an architect, Starck also has a number of projects to his name, including projects in Tokyo, Osaka and even the Groninger Museum in the Netherlands.

BeBoB was founded with a focus on recycling and started as a foundation, not profit-based.
For almost 40 years, it has specialised in collecting and selling midcentury design, focussing on the right matches more than how to get the best profit.
BeBoB charges reasonable prices for vintage and collector’s items.

Vintage Prices are approximately 35% to 65% of the new-to-order price, if items are still new in production. If not anymore in production they become collectibles.
Collectibles are also the original pieces from the design period of the items, which are still in production and are more expensive, but often a good investment out of scarcity.
