Theo Ruth can be considered the pioneer of Artifort’s design tradition. He trained as a furniture designer and interior designer at the Maastricht Secondary School of Applied Arts (later the Academy of Applied Arts). In 1936, Ruth joined Wagemans & Van Tuinen, initially as a furniture maker, and from 1939 as head of the design and development department. Ruth was the first permanent designer of Artifort furniture. He made a name for himself with his expert designs, particularly of traditional furniture for the living room. His most famous chair is the Congo from 1952, which became a huge sales success. Ruth headed the design department until his death in 1971. Besides creating his own designs, he played a key role in implementing the ideas of other designers at Artifort.
BeBoB was founded with a focus on recycling and started as a foundation, not profit-based.
For almost 40 years, it has specialised in collecting and selling midcentury design, focussing on the right matches more than how to get the best profit.
BeBoB charges reasonable prices for vintage and collector’s items.
Vintage Prices are approximately 35% to 65% of the new-to-order price, if items are still new in production. If not anymore in production they become collectibles.
Collectibles are also the original pieces from the design period of the items, which are still in production and are more expensive, but often a good investment out of scarcity.
