As the son of architect and designer Gerrit Th. Rietveld, Wim Rietveld showed a keen interest in design from an early age. He gained his first work experience as an apprentice draftsman and later as head of the drawing office at an industrial weighing equipment factory. In 1950, Rietveld decided to study design at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague. The quality of his final graduation project prompted Willem H. Gispen to invite him to a position with the Gispen company. At that time, the Netherlands was undergoing reconstruction and materials were scarce. Rietveld saw this as a challenge and pushed himself to create functional designs that were not only well-formed but also solid, practical, and affordable. This led to the successful Gispen collection of “furniture for a simple interior.” His interest in the essence of products in conjunction with technology led Rietveld to focus more on the design of transport equipment from 1960 onward, in addition to his work as a lecturer at the Hague Academy of Art and the former Delft University of Technology. In 1973 he was appointed extraordinary professor at the intermediate department for industrial design there.
BeBoB was founded with a focus on recycling and started as a foundation, not profit-based.

BeBoB charges reasonable prices for vintage and collector’s items.
Vintage Prices are approximately 35% to 65% of the new-to-order price, if items are still new in production. If not anymore in production they become collectibles.
Collectibles are also the original pieces from the design period of the items, which are still in production and are more expensive, but often a good investment out of scarcity.
