(Netherlands, 1953)
After studying at the Department of Civil Engineering and Architecture of the former Delft University of Technology, Rob Eckhardt established himself as an independent architect in 1980. He soon came into contact with several people working on the renovation and furnishing of various Amsterdam cafés. Through this process, he was commissioned to design a compact chair for a nightclub. This resulted in the “Dolores” armchair, which, among other things, attracted the attention of Avenue magazine . However, the furniture industry was in a slump at the time and showed little interest. This prompted Eckhardt to open a shop in 1982 to market his designs himself. Characteristic of his working method is that he doesn’t view furniture as an isolated, independent element, but always considers it in relation to the space in which it is incorporated. Until recently, several of his designs were produced by the leading furniture manufacturer Pastoe. Eckhardt deliberately outsourced the production of his models ‘Greetings from Holland’, ‘Karel Doorman’ and ‘Garni’ to Gebroeders van der Stroom.
BeBoB was founded with a focus on recycling and started as a foundation, not profit-based.
For almost 40 years, it has specialised in collecting and selling midcentury design, focussing on the right matches more than how to get the best profit.
BeBoB charges reasonable prices for vintage and collector’s items.
Vintage Prices are approximately 35% to 65% of the new-to-order price, if items are still new in production. If not anymore in production they become collectibles.
Collectibles are also the original pieces from the design period of the items, which are still in production and are more expensive, but often a good investment out of scarcity.
