Osvaldo Borsani Born: 1911 Italy Died: 1985 Italy After the war, Italian designers were experimenting with new philosophies and new ways of designing: many were busy designing a new kind of utopia. Extreme modernity was the motto. This approach was strongly reflected in the design of the P40 and D70 lounge chairs that Osvaldo Borsani created in 1954 for Tecno, the company he founded in 1952 with his brother Fulgenzio. The D70 was a sofa that could be transformed into a bed. Based on Borsani’s belief that design should be born from technical research, these two designs are highly innovative in the flexibility of their use. The P40 chair can be adjusted to 468 positions, and the back of the D70 sofa can be adjusted to any angle up to 90 degrees and can even be folded completely in half to save storage space. During Tecno’s early years, the company was renowned for its experiments with new materials like rubber and foam. From 1952 until his death in 1985, Borsani was the chief designer of this leading company.
BeBoB was founded with a focus on recycling and started as a foundation, not profit-based.
For almost 40 years, it has specialised in collecting and selling midcentury design, focussing on the right matches more than how to get the best profit.
BeBoB charges reasonable prices for vintage and collector’s items.
Vintage Prices are approximately 35% to 65% of the new-to-order price, if items are still new in production. If not anymore in production they become collectibles.
Collectibles are also the original pieces from the design period of the items, which are still in production and are more expensive, but often a good investment out of scarcity.
