André Cordemeyer (1924-1998) was born in Bussum. He studied mechanical engineering at the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences (HTS). He began his career as a draftsman and designer. In 1952, bed manufacturer Auping hired him as a company engineer. His design for the Cleopatra bed was put into production on the condition that De Bijenkorf would obtain exclusive rights. Cordemeyer focused more on design work and began studying industrial design. In 1954, he resigned from Auping to work as a freelance industrial designer. That same year, he became a member of the Circle of Industrial Designers (KIO) in The Hague, where he held a board position for a long time. He made many important contacts there, including Wim Rietveld. Cordemeyer lived in Apeldoorn in a house designed by Gerrit Rietveld. Cordemeyer designed the extension himself, taking the rest of the design into account. Cordemeyer subsequently designed other houses in Apeldoorn and Veendam.
In 1956, AR Cordemeyer was appointed designer alongside Wim Rietveld. He joined the team to design a new, more affordable desk. Cordemeyer and Rietveld introduced plastic furniture to Gispen. Together, they designed armchair no. 416: made of polyester, it was one of the first industrially manufactured plastic chairs in the Netherlands. After Rietveld’s departure in 1957, the design team consisted of Van Osselen, L.J. Holleman, and André Cordemeyer.
Between 1956 and 1976, Cordemeyer designed numerous pieces of furniture for the Gispen company, including the AZ office furniture program, as well as furniture for the home. In 1961, for example, he designed several seating units, including conference armchair no. 1431 and an armchair with armrests no. 1432, as well as two- and three-seater sofas no. 1704 and no. 1715, with or without armrests. The upholstery was by Weverij De Ploeg. Cordemeyer managed to adapt both the construction and upholstery as much as possible to the machine manufacturing process. Cordemeyer was also responsible for the Gispen BZ series, a series of chairs with a plastic shell. The “Beter Zitten” (Better Sitting ) series was released with the characteristics of “high resistance to aging” and “dimensional stability.”
As an industrial designer, Cordemeyer sought new adjustments in production processes, used new materials like polyester, and continually improved existing designs. For example, in 1963, specifically for chair no. 1262, he designed self-adjusting nylon floor protectors, known as Delrin caps, which adapt to the slope of the floor.
In 1976, he left Gispen to focus more on engineering design, developing technical products and installations, and their social impact. He designed high-voltage pylons and the first turbine in a wind energy project.

BeBoB was founded with a focus on recycling and started as a foundation, not profit-based.
For almost 40 years, it has specialised in collecting and selling midcentury design, focussing on the right matches more than how to get the best profit.
BeBoB charges reasonable prices for vintage and collector’s items.
Vintage Prices are approximately 35% to 65% of the new-to-order price, if items are still new in production. If not anymore in production they become collectibles.
Collectibles are also the original pieces from the design period of the items, which are still in production and are more expensive, but often a good investment out of scarcity.
