Stam, Mart
Mart Stam Martinus Adrianus Stam was born on August 5, 1899, in Purmerend. From 1917 to 1919, he attended the National Normal School for Drawing Education, where he earned a degree in architecture. When Stam left for Berlin in 1922, he had already worked at two offices: Van der Mey and Granpré Molière. In Berlin, Stam designed the facade of the Berlin printing house for Max Taut. Stam also maintained contacts with the magazine Frühlicht. In 1923, Stam left for Switzerland and, in 1924, founded the magazine ABC there, together with Hans Schmidt and Emil Roth. It was during this period that Stam designed Cornavin, the Geneva train station. This design resulted in a completely open station without a front building, where the needs of traffic dictated the design. This also typifies the idea that a building should serve people and be designed from that perspective. Unlike many Russian plans, which arose from the same ideals, this building is down-to-earth and also feasible. Stam has, so to speak, found his form and is rightly considered one of the most important architects of the time. Stam died in 1986.

Vintage Prices are approximately 35% to 65% of the new-to-order price, if items are still new in production. If not anymore in production they become collectibles.
Collectibles are also the original pieces from the design period of the items, which are still in production and are more expensive, but often a good investment out of scarcity.
